This weekend my whole idea to clean my room revolved around getting a new bookshelf and bed frame at Ikea while they were having the "we'll pay the tax" for memorial day weekend deal.

So I boxed up all my dvds and books and moved them to the living room. I took 3 bags of trash and 4 bags of giveaway stuff out of my room. I took my bed apart and took the bad frame out to the garage, and took the stuff off my old desktop and took it out to the living room to go out for recycle. That was Saturday.

I cleared out my closet and started doing all my random laundry I found, hung things up that should be hung up, took more giveaway clothes out and liberated the tv from my closet. I cleaned out my trunk completely so I could fit everything in it. I drove to the recycle center with my tv, old vcr, and all the glass building up for almost a year in the garage and got rid of it. I put the rest of the recycle in our bin at home. I unloaded and reloaded the dishwasher. By 6pm, I was ready to go to Ikea to get some furniture.

I drove to Ikea and spent an hour and a half looking through every type of bookcase to make sure I got the right parts. They sell things in parts, so you can get the bookshelf by itself, or you can get glass doors for the front of it, or solid doors, or an extra shelf, and they also have cross pieces you can buy so that you can build an entertainment center in the center of two bookshelves or whatever. Anyway, I made sure I wrote everything down, I even had alternate choices, in case the box it came in didn't fit in my car. I also had two choices of bedframe.

I wrote down where everything was in the self-serve warehouse, and grabbed a cart to pick it up. I found the doors I wanted and got 4 of them, loaded them all up, then went to get the bookshelf. Gone. So I went to the info table, they looked it up. None for 3 weeks. I asked about a raincheck on the price, she told me, "no, because it's not a sale price, it's just that we are covering your sales tax this weekend only." So I told her I'd have to go with my second choice. So I go unload the doors and move on to the next bookshelf. Not there either. I go back to my third and fourth choices. Nope. None. I move on to the bedframes. Neither one was there either.

I had picked up a pillow, so I still stood in line and bought that, but it made me want to cry. Just...can't believe you still have a day left of this great deal and they didn't stock their shelves enough to have 1 thing out of 6 that I wanted! I drove all the way to Renton for a pillow that I could have picked up anywhere. (This would be when I texted you, [livejournal.com profile] primis ). I ended up going to Molly's afterwards and hanging out with her and Kris and Carrie, so it wasn't a total loss of a night, I guess. We played Balderdash and ate cookies, which I needed at that point.

My big problem now is that my room is ready for a bedframe and bookshelf and I don't have any stuff in here until I have that. So tomorrow it's Fred Meyer first, I already checked walmart, and if I feel really adventurous and spendy and want to try and track down a vehicle to bring stuff back with, maybe I'll give the Old Cannery a try. I have a random loathing for that place even though I've never actually stepped inside it, I just know other people that have gotten things there. They have nice furniture but it's SO EXPENSIVE and I just am not planning to have these furniture items for very long (I am NOT taking furniture when I move).

So, yeah. Can't do much more until I get those, and I want to finish this up before the weekend is over, or I'll probably drive my roommate nuts with all the crap in the living room. So tomorrow it is! I am *so* going to deserve a big bowl of matzo ball soup when this is all over, I'm planning to make that too tomorrow, yummy! Goodnight all.
